SMOKY-LAB testing apparatus was developed
as a direct response to the
Tobacco Products Directive (2014/40/EU).
To meet the needs of the growing e-cigarette and e-liquids markets, scientists from Spark-Lab Laboratory, using their extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, have designed and constructed trademark apparatus to analyse these products for safety and suitability of purpose. We have named this apparatus SMOKY-LAB.
SMOKY-LAB's construction allows for absorption of vapes generated after heating e-liquid in e-cigarettes, and an analysis of the emission of 21 substances emitted in from e-cigarette vapes, in accordance with TPD.

Offer
The TPD regulations place a legal obligation on the e-liquid producers to put in place a thorough testing of emission of the 21 organic and inorganic substances in vapes generated from e-liquid during e-cigarette usage:
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)
Benzene
1,3-Butadien
Toluene
Isoprene
Xylenes
Heavy metals
Lead - Pb
Cadmium - Cd
Arsenic - As
Copper - Cu
Chrome - Cr
Nickel - Ni
Aldehydes and Ketones
Acetaldehyde
Acrolein
Diacetyl (2,3-butanedione)
Crotonaldehyde
Formaldehyde
Acetyl propionyl
Isovaleraldehyde
o-Tolualdehyde
Hexaldehyde
Others
Nicotine/Glycerin/Propylene glycol
Glycerine
Propylene glycol
TSNA: NNK
TSNA: NNN
Diethylene glycol
Ethylene glycol
Spark Labs' specialised equipment also allows for other analytical procedures, such as:
- Determination of qualitative and quantitative analyses of e-liquid flavours
- Analyses of basic components of e-liquids (propylene glycol, glycerine, nicotine)
- Analyses of volatile components of e-liquids (e.g. Menthol) using gas chromatography with mass detection GC-MS
- Testing of e-cigarettes, according to TPD
EQUIPMENT

SMOKY-LAB apparatus allows regulation of parameters for:
- Control and registration of air flow intensity
- Accurate temperature measurement in immediate heater vicinity
- Variable inhalation time
- Control of time span between inhalations
- Collecting of data for dedicated soft-ware
Spark-Lab Laboratory is a modern research centre, operating on the European market since 2010. The laboratories feature advanced analytical and research equipment, such as UHPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS, ICP-OES, GC-FID, HPLC-DAD and spectrophotometer UV-VIS, enabling thorough analysis, for testing of e-liquids and vapes. Spark -Lab technicians carry out a complete qualitative and quantitative analysis of raw materials used in production of e-liquids, e-liquids basic components, flavours added to e-liquids (including menthol content) and e-liquids both in liquid form and after conversion into vapes.
Our Laboratories also test for conformity of e-cigarettes with TPD regulations.
